Don't assume that because you get a delivery of oil your storage is legal or safe!

What's wrong with this installation? Well, firstly it's at a commercial premises and the tank should have been bunded since 1st September 2005. It looks like it's in an open bund, but it isn't (see picture to the right). Its also too near to two openings (windows) on the building, and would require fire protection if the owners want it to go back in the same position.

The tank to the left is at a depot of a national builders merchant. It is bunded but the installation is poor. Plastic tanks should be fully supported across their entire base by a fireproof material (i.e. concrete), this one is not. The warranty on this tank is void because of this. Also, the use of a gravity fed oil line and nozzle is a breach of the bund. If someone were to jam the nozzle open, or damage the feed pipe to the nozzle, a considerable spillage could occur before isolation of the oil is achieved.

The tanks below are, again, plastic tanks which are not fully supported across their entire bases. One is at a commercial site and should also be bunded. Look at how the plastic is bending over the concrete blocks. When these tanks are fully loaded there is nearly 1.5 Tonnes of oil pushing down on a piece of plastic less than 20mm thick! The oil supply companies should refuse delivery, but they don't. We have seen these tanks fail under load (fortunately with water only). Losing 1400 litres of oil is not only expensive, but environmentally damaging. Both of these tanks have clear installation instructions attached, all instructions have been ignored. (When we re-visited this site to change the tanks for bunded ones, the installation stickers had been removed - it didn't alter the legality of the installation!).

We accept the above cards.
