Tank Inspection.

As specialists in Oil Storage Tank installations and replacements, we at Philter Ltd, believe that it's important that you have your oil storage tank inspected on a regular basis. Annually is sufficient and is a requirement of the manufacturer. This should be carried out by an OFTEC registered technician and marked on the tank or service record of the boiler. The pictures below show a variety of defects in plastic tanks, most of which were covered under warranty and changed at no cost to the end user, only one tank manufacturer tries to dodge a warranty claim and we think thats immoral, so if your tanks' name sounds like that, get it checked.

Some of these cracks are extreme we know, but, unfortunately they do happen. The vast majority of tanks made since 2002 are not likely to crack. Modern plastics are highly durable and very UV resistant. All of these images are of single skin tanks. these cracks did not happen overnight and a regular inspection of the tank would have bought them to light sooner. They also cover three manufacturers products, but we don't think any manufacturer is immune. Please also remember that your plastic tank should be fully supported across its entire base and not slung between two piers like the steel one it may have replaced.

Of course, tank failure is not unique to plastic tanks. We've come across plastic tanks which are well over 25 years old and in good condition, and we've come across steel tanks less than 10 years old which are rotten through and leaking.
